I’m majoring in Public Policy. I wanted to minor in accounting but most of the top universities don’t offer it as a minor so I narrowed my choices down to African and African American Studies and Urban Studies. I want to go to law school and start a career working with the state or federal government, so actually practicing law is not important to me. Which minor will give me a broader career choice… African and African American Studies and Urban Studies??? I value all opinions, Thanks in advance.

Have you ever though about minoring in Sociology? Community organization, community problems ’cause that might open up more doors for you. But if not I recommend urban studies something more broad and less general.

I have a bachelor's degree in accounting and am a licensed CPA with a few years of experience in the field. I'd like to pursue a PhD in business (at a top school) and don't want to get a Master's if it's not really necessary. If an admissions officer came across my application and everything was strong, but I had no Master's, what would be my chances of getting into the program?
If you work for a university please include the name, thanks!

You can get your Phd with out the masters in most subjects, all you would need is your undergraduate transcript and GRE scores. The issue here is that you want a Phd in business. Getting the MBA is the norm as opposed to other fields of study.

I work at Rutgers and there is a Phd business program here. You do NOT need to have a masters. The average Phd student here for business has a GMAT (not GRE) score of 675 and graduate in the top 5% of their undergraduate class. Rutgers also emphasizes mathamatical ability, so advanced math courses would help.

Bottom line, if your test scores and grades are good enough, you can find a good program to do your Phd, witout getting a masters first. Hope this helped.

ok so i did pretty good in high school but i couldnt get into an ivy leauge school so i went to university of michigan. if i get a 3.9 gpa there and a 750 gmat do i have a good chance at getting into upenn wharton or hbs or any of the other top ten MBA programs? and how much do these top b schools take into account what ugrad school that you went to rather than your grades? i really want to be an investment banker at a bulge bracket firm so it is imperative that i go to an ivy leauge business school or chicago or MIT sloan is this possible?

You're at Michigan – a school whose MBA program is top 10 in certain subject areas, and is highly respected overall – and you're worried about future rejection because it's not MIT? Don't give it a second thought, dude. Concentrate on those grades, leadership activities, and internship opportunities for now, focus on the GMAT and landing a first job that will open doors when the time comes, and you'll be in great shape.

Highlights of S-LB, #29 on Takkle/Sports Illustrated's Top 200. Jeffery has verbally committed to the University of South Carolina. DJ has very good instincts when attacking the football. He's really effective around the line of scrimmage and may be an exceptional linebacker.

I have already had one lesson which my dad booked over the internet. I have texted my instructor to book another lesson, however I am not sure how I go about paying for this. I was going to use the ‘top up account’ option on the website but as my instructor does not allow internet bookings after the first lesson I am not sure if this would work. Should I just take cash with me? Thank you so much for any help :)

cash or check will work

I am finishing my 3rd year of my B.com at University of Toronto with an accounting and finance specialist. I want to get into a top ten MBA program, my problem is that a did poorly in my first 2 years (2.7 gpa) but I'm getting a 4.0 so far this year while taking more than a full course load.
I don't have any relevant work experience but I have leadership and volunteering experience and I feel that I would perform very well in interviews. Are my chances good for getting into a big four accounting firm, and then getting into an MBA in America with my CA designation and hopefully a GMAT score in the 700's? Is accounting considered good work experience when applying to an MBA program, and would it be useful for me to take a fifth year to create an alternative transcript? Thank you to in advance for answering!

Yes, I think grad schools definitely look at your later years of undergrad, so don't be too worried about your first two years.

I was in a similar boat, with "not so great" grades in years 1 and 2, but did really well beyond that and was accepted at a Canadian university and UK university for Masters programs.

What someone else said is very true – MBA programs really look at your work experience, and I think your options are better once you've had a couple years working full-time. This is because many MBA programs are "executive" programs, or if they're not, they're still requesting at least 2 years relevant work experience.

So it might be valuable to boost your grades and take a 5th year, but if you know your grades are fine now, it might be even more valuable to find yourself a great job for a year or two before taking the MBA.

Hope this helped. Do lots of research!!
